Is this service really free?

1

Yes. If you have a valid GP Chronic Disease Management referral for IBS/dietetic support, every session is bulk billed with no out of pocket cost to you.

9

If it's free, how do you keep the quality high?

2

By focusing exclusively on IBS. Because Simplistic Nutrition doesn't spread across weight management, general nutrition, or other conditions, all of the time outside of appointments goes into staying current with IBS specific research, clinical guidelines, and professional development. That narrow focus is what makes a fully bulk billed, high quality program sustainable.

Do I need a diagnosis of IBS, or is a referral enough?

3

You'll need a GP referral specifically for IBS or symptoms consistent with IBS. If you haven't been formally diagnosed, discuss this with your GP first. In some cases, further investigations may be recommended before starting the program.

Can I use this service for weight loss or general nutrition advice?

4

How many sessions will I need?

5

No. Simplistic Nutrition works exclusively with IBS. If you're looking for general nutrition or weight management support, we're happy to point you toward other options, but it isn't something we provide here.

Most people complete the full program in 4 to 5 sessions over roughly 3 to 4 months, though this depends on your individual needs and which pathway suits you best.

How many visits should I ask my GP for?

We recommend asking your GP to allocate 3 to 5 of your CDM visits specifically to dietetics. The program can't be completed with only 1 to 2 visits. If your referral only covers 1 to 2 dietetic visits, let us know and we can help you figure out next steps, including an additional referral or continuing privately.

What if I'm not eligible for Medicare, or I've already used my CDM visits with someone else this year?

10

You're still welcome here. You can access the same program as a private patient. See our private rates on the Eligibility page.

Can I do this via Telehealth from anywhere in Australia?

Yes. Telehealth appointments are available Australia wide. Face to face appointments are available in Mackay on Wednesdays.

Do you see children with IBS?

Simplistic Nutrition works exclusively with adults (18+). For children with IBS symptoms, we strongly recommend seeing a paediatric dietitian with expertise in gut health. Monash University's own guidance is that the low FODMAP diet in children should be managed by a paediatric focused dietitian, not a general adult IBS practice. We're happy to point you in the right direction if you're unsure who to see.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

We ask for at least 24 hours' notice. Late cancellations or missed appointments incur a fee of 50% of the Medicare rebate, charged to the card on file. Full details are provided when you book.

What's involved in the Annual Review?

Recommended every 12 months after finishing the program, this session retests your FODMAP tolerance and updates your plan with current clinical guidance. It requires a new GP referral and is bulk billed the same way as your original program.

Do you offer in person appointments outside Mackay?

Currently, face to face appointments are only available in Mackay. Telehealth is available to anyone in Australia.
